The Commercial Recreation and Tourism minor offers an interdisciplinary approach by integrating courses from various fields, including Management and Marketing, Economics, Geography, Planning and Sustainability, and Sports Medicine and Human Performance. This minor aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges within the travel and transportation, hospitality, commercial recreation, and entertainment sectors. Through a combination of theoretical coursework and practical fieldwork, students will develop essential skills in management, marketing, and operations, while also exploring potential career opportunities in this dynamic industry. To complete the minor, students must earn 18 credits, including a minimum of 6 credits at WSU. Required courses include an introduction to commercial recreation and tourism, as well as options in travel planning or recreation geography. Additionally, students will select three courses from a range of offerings, pending approval from their minor advisor. Those pursuing this minor are encouraged to major in related fields such as Economics and Management, Geography and Regional Planning, or Sports Medicine and Human Performance, and should seek guidance from their respective departments.
